1501 McCarthy

Located centrally in Milpitas and close to the northern border of San Jose border, this upgraded industrial building site (~135,000 SF on 9.4 acres) is surrounded by hi-tech companies, extensive retail, housing, and hospitality amenities and services, including The Great Mall and McCarthy Ranch Marketplace.
Many area businesses have identified the value of updating older industrial buildings to meet the contemporary needs of a progressive work environment. Legacy Partners CDS, Inc. hired HMH Landscape Architecture as a project team member to provide professional landscape design construction improvements and amenities for the site. Upgraded features include eco-sensitive landscaping for the modern, architecturally-detailed building entrance and for a vibrant & expansive outdoor collaborative/meeting area in the center of the building that features popular amenities such as a BBQ area, bocce court, volleyball court, and direct access to a local running trail.

3553 North First

HMH Landscape Architecture staff provided landscape design services for an updated market-ready location in North San Jose. Private on-site amenities and improvements at the building entry, rear & side courtyards, corner plaza, and street frontage were constructed to bring a new, modern sense of place.
In a prominent location surrounded by other new and innovative businesses at North First Street and Rio Robles, the site is approximately 6 acres with an existing two-story building (~86,200 SF) originally built in 1984 for industrial research/development. The new outdoor space now provides colorful furnishings for seating and relaxing, contemporary-styled surface materials, and a “water-wise” plant palette to blend with the diagrammatic plan for the existing and new trees based on an arborist’s report. A new workplace that incorporates the indoor with the outdoor setting will serve as a creative and collaborative environment for the workers.
Before these improvements were built, existing visible site features and improvements surveyed were reconciled with data previously collected on the site. Grading and utility plans for the courtyard area modifications, entry modifications and finished grades were based on these layouts.
Stormwater treatment control measures were numerically sized following the hydraulic design criteria specified for flow-based treatment controls in the City’s Post Construction Urban Runoff Management Policy and Provision C.3 of the Santa Clara Valley Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention Program NPDES Permit.

Silvercreek Campus

The Silver Creek Business Park (managed by MWest) encompasses four (4) 98,000 SF two-story Office/Research & Development buildings. HMH Landscape Architecture worked with Huntsman Architectural Group to create a contemporary outside setting that promotes a healthy, comfortable space for workers to collaborate and congregate. The new building exterior and landscaping features (hard and soft) in common areas between and adjacent to the buildings are environmentally responsible, saves water and uses resources efficiently.
While creating a work environment that people enjoy working in, the new outdoor amenities, such as a tensile weather-resistant canopy, BBQ area (with exterior lighting), bocce court, furnishings and pedestrian finishings, were built to accommodate the indoor transition to a pleasant outdoor setting that attracts today’s facility-conscious business and tech users.

2820 Orchard “The Yard”

The owner for 2820 Orchard, also known as “The Yard,” wanted a design that would be reflective of the Silicon Valley area yet paid an homage to history. With the many tech companies in the area, the importance of needing to attract as well as retain top talent was vital and the landscape architecture elements needed to reflect this new perspective.
The HMH Landscape Architecture team partnered with architectural firm aai in taking a once quiet, forgotten, and plant-deprived 2-building complex located in north San Jose and did a 180 in both look and feel.
The design is now cohesive, contemporary, sleek, and industrial modern. The landscape architectural elements that help to enhance the improvements include an outdoor amenity-rich area, a “beer garden,” bar seating, picnic tables, and lounge seating.

3055 Orchard Drive

The task for 3055 Orchard was to provide the client with two vastly different concepts for an outdoor amenity area adjacent to a proposed break room. HMH Landscape Architecture came up with the concept shown in the 3D model images above and the client chose one of the concepts based on the amenities it provided for potential future tenants. Once the client chose a concept, construction documents were prepared and the project went through the City through their expedited STI submittal process. The site was quickly demolished and the improvements were constructed in roughly three months. The new amenity area consists of concrete landscape walls with LED lit reveals, a fire pit, synthetic turf ‘green wall’, concrete cornhole game, ipe wood fence, BBQ and built-in kegerator.

Orchard Trimble Campus

Market ready renovation for the vacant 206,448-square-foot Orchard-Trimble Business Park in San Jose. The project includes new lobbies, windows, restrooms, common areas and electrical/mechanical systems.
HMH Landscape Architecture provided services for the renovation and designed an entirely new amenity space between the buildings. Some of the features in the new courtyard include bocce ball court, water feature, tiered movie viewing terrace, outdoor kitchen and ipe decking. The improvements are critical because many properties are older, one- and two-story R&D buildings that worked for a previous generation of manufacturing tenants. MWest is working towards attracting today’s facility-conscious tech user that is competing for top talent.
