2820 Orchard “The Yard”

The owner for 2820 Orchard, also known as “The Yard,” wanted a design that would be reflective of the Silicon Valley area yet paid an homage to history. With the many tech companies in the area, the importance of needing to attract as well as retain top talent was vital and the landscape architecture elements needed to reflect this new perspective.

The HMH Landscape Architecture team partnered with architectural firm aai in taking a once quiet, forgotten, and plant-deprived 2-building complex located in north San Jose and did a 180 in both look and feel.

The design is now cohesive, contemporary, sleek, and industrial modern. The landscape architectural elements that help to enhance the improvements include an outdoor amenity-rich area, a “beer garden,” bar seating, picnic tables, and lounge seating.
